Bogo Power was formed to set up a mini hydropower plant located in the Kirkoswald Estate in Bogawanthalawa. It has a power purchase agreement with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for purchasing of the power generated for a period of 20 years, thus supplying to the national grid. The project was fully commissioned in December 2011 with a power capacity of 4MW and annual generation of 15.2GWh.

The water required for the hydropower project is diverted and returned to the river within a short distance from the point of diversion. The channel, weir and powerhouse are small structures, thus minimising their impact on the natural ecosystem and the communities in the area.

Bogo Power is registered with the Board of Investment and has obtained necessary approvals from the Sustainable Energy Authority and Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.
